2019 Resolutions

Treadmills in fitness centers will be crowded. But crowds disappear usually after the 2nd week of January.

The key: Do not make new year resolutions. They’ll be forgotten and neglected. Make daily resolves instead. Create a routine and stick to it. Then watch your life begins to change and improve.

2019 offers opportunities, challenges, temptations and distractions. Let's commit now that we will learn and explore new opportunities, carry a positive disposition to meet challenges. Refuse temptations that would compromise values and ethics and focus on doing activities that add value to our success goals. DON'T PROCRASTINATE. That decision begins now!

Final thought for the New Year. Be wise. Plan your future only with people who have future plans. Let's not waste our resources. There are people who do not care about the future and there are those who do. Having shared goals is what it takes to achieve objectives. This principle works not only in business, career and profession but applies to relationships too.

Isn’t it wonderful that God’s command for us includes rest? We have permission to rest. We are not responsible for fixing everything that is broken and we do not have to try and make everyone happy. As the year 2018 ends; these would be good days for rest and recharge. For now, let's take time. It’s time to replenish.

Happy New Year!

Some very simple ideas to make 2019 a good year...

Be thankful. (in all circumstances)
Be kind. (even to the unkind)
Be encouraging. (use words of kindness)
Be credible. (always be truthful)
Be loving. (consider others first)
Be reliable. (always keep your promises)
Be positive. (look at possibilities)
Be excellent. (you do your best)
Be faithful. (love God love others)

And so we reflect and express gratitude for the blessings that God has given this year. Successes, joys and achievements; gratitude and tempers pride.

And so we look forward to a new year full of potential and promises. We learned from this year’s mistakes and we move on with a resolve to become better and to do things better. We look forward with a heart of hope.

This season has been a very different season for me and my family. We miss you tatay. But we are all learning, we are all thankful and we are all hopeful. And with this heart and spirit I greet you all a blessed, productive and an even more meaningful new year to you and all your loved ones. God bless you all and thank you for sharing this blog site.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas this year is different for me and my family but let me share some meaningful quotes on Christmas that mean so much to me. I hope you like it too...

Christ was born in a borrowed manger and He was buried in a borrowed tomb. He did not come to make evil men good but He came to make dead people live. This is the meaning of Christmas.

The best Christmas gift is offered by the Celebrant Himself: “And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.” says Jesus Christ.

And on the lighter side of things, it has been said that men go through the four stages of life...

1.  You believe in Santa Claus.
2.  You don’t believe in Santa Claus.
3.  You are Santa Claus.
4.  You look like Santa Claus.

Have a merry and blessed Christmas. May the spirit of Christmas be always in our heart.

The Spare Tire

Faith is like a spare tire. We carry it with us everyday. In fact, we often take it for granted, even neglect or forget it until we have a flat tire and we realize how lucky we are to have a spare tire.

Like the spare tire, we should check to see if it is already flat or under-inflated. Faith must be constantly checked and if necessary, inflated.

Faith, like the spare tire can make the difference as we travel life's road. Let's take it along with us for it will give us the necessary strength. It is the key to a more confident travel.

God never gives us a plan, a dream or a purpose that matches our budget. He is not busy checking our bank account He is checking our faith. Let's not sell our self short. Let's not settle for average. Let's pursue excellence and be the best we can ever be for His Name’s sake.

Finally, these words bring us comfort and hope. We need to remember these every day. By faith, we live; by love, we serve; by patience, we understand; by trials, we gain wisdom; by sharing, we give joy.

Cultivate a Healthy Mind

Being positive in a very negative world is a choice. And that includes social media. Choosing to love instead of harboring hatred is a choice too.

Someone says let the power of your love change the world, but never let the problems of this world change the beauty of your love.

Cultivate a healthy mind. Fill it with positive as well as things of value. Be careful with what you allow to enter because it affects the way we speak and live. A healthy mind does not speak bad things against other people. But a healthy mind understands truth and would not back away from it.

One of the hardest decisions to make in life is to decide whether to hold on or to let go; to wait for a positive change or to simply walk away.

2018 is almost over; be ready to enter the next and new chapter of your life. Stop dwelling on your last chapter, turn a new leaf and explore the new one. The past is a good place to learn from and not to long for. So reconfigure a strategy and start moving on.

Choose To Be Cool

Too many holidays. Too many things to do and there is the constant need to catch up on many things. So be careful. Choose correctly.

We can choose to frantically do all the stuff, get stressed and be overwhelmed or we can choose to keep our cool, pace ourselves and do the important thing first one step at a time. Refuse the temptation to be angry. Smile and find the fun in what we do.

This is a very different Christmas season for my family and me. Things happened that we did not understand. But we are learning lessons.

It is obvious that God does not show up the whole plan with dates of events up front. It is because He is interested in our personal growth, so He provides opportunities. Not much faith is required when we already know the outcome in advance. And so by faith we trust and then we learn. This is why I love the song that carries the lyrics: “If you cannot see God’s hand, you can trust God’s heart.”

PEACE cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only LIGHT can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only LOVE can do that. This is what Christmas is about when He who is Peace, Love and Light came so we may live and understand. A Blessed Christmas to you and your family.

Spreading The News

Many people are still waiting for opportunities; others are busy creating it. It’s not luck. it’s hard work and preparation. Not chances, its choices. So create opportunities, work hard, prepare and make right and wise choices. Be patient. Enjoy incremental success that comes as a result of this process until you hit tipping point and good things will start pouring in.

There is a story about a barber who gave a free haircut to a German. The next day, he received a basket of frankfurters outside his door. After giving a Japanese also a free haircut, the barber found a bottle of sake wine outside his door.

He gave a Filipino a free haircut and, the next day, what did the barber find? 10 more Filipinos who received and were sending text messages about a German giving a free haircut!

They say that good people with beautiful hearts are like lighted candles. The darker the night, the brighter they shine. They do not make noise about their brightness and they do not lose their brightness by sharing it with others.

Like a lighthouse, let our light be seen by and guide those in the dark. I guess this is what Jesus means when He says you and I need to be the light of the world so we can reflect His Light.

Have a happy weekend. Let's spread the good news wherever we are, wherever we go.

Hold On

Hold on to your bonuses. Save money not wishing you would want to when you don’t have it but now that you do, SAVE IT! Do not go on a spending spree.

Money has a unique characteristic. When you hold it near your ear you will hear it scream: “Let me go! Let me go!” But the person who is wise and has mastery over his or her emotions would handle it properly.

The story is told about a mother who told her little girl: "No matter what happens, hold on to my skirt so that you won't get lost in the mall." "Yes, mommy," was the little girl's reply. There were so many people doing their last-minute Christmas shopping, and true enough, the little girl held on, and held on tight.

Two hours later, there was an announcement: "Calling on the parent or the guardian of a lost little girl wearing a blue dress and tenaciously holding on to a red skirt."

Hold on, no matter what, no matter where.

Thank You

When we look back and wonder how we ever made it through this far, we realize that it is not because we were WISE, but because GOD has been GOOD. Not because we have been STRONG, but because GOD has been MIGHTY. Not because we have been CONSISTENT, but because GOD has been FAITHFUL.

2018’s almost over. Here are some very simple ideas to make the year ends a good year:

Be thankful. (in all circumstances)
Be kind. (even to the unkind)
Be encouraging. (use words of kindness)
Be credible. (always be truthful)
Be loving. (consider others first)
Be reliable. (always keep your promises)
Be positive. (look at possibilities)
Be excellent. (you do your best)
Be faithful. (love God love others)

So there, may we all have a blessed, productive and an even more meaningful and grateful year and the years to come.

It is not how much a person gets out of life that matters but how much he pours in. It is not happiness that leads to a sense of gratitude but it is gratitude that leads to a sense of happiness.

If the only prayer you ever said was “thank you”, that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart

What Is A Father?

What is a father? My boy gave his beautiful response: "A father is a person who used to have money in his wallet but now only has pictures of his loved ones."

I know of fathers who sacrifice so much, just so his son or daughter will have a better life. As for those fathers who still have so much or too much money in their wallets, perhaps it's time for them to really examine their being a father: Do you need all that money? How did you make all that money! Is money all that important? Is money all that you'll leave behind? Fathers, lets be like our generous and loving FATHER.

Children shouldn't have to sacrifice so that you can have the life you want. You make sacrifices so your children can have the life that they deserve.

When kids are young and immature they may not know this: Being young, they are self-absorbed and do not know that their actions would cause their parents distress. Many parents keep up an image of strength and positivity but they actually suffer in silence. Love is what makes them endure. The mature and potentially successful young person understands and try to bring good news and encouragement to gladden the hearts of their stressed parents. Happy parenting!

A Nervous Tourist

The story is told about Ben Torres from Bicol who was so afraid and nervous because of his illegal immigration status in the United States. When told by the guy at the gas station to "pay first," he thought the guy was asking for his papers. When asked if he had a Master card or Visa credit card, he got nervous all the more because he thought that the guy was asking for his visa. When asked whether he was a tourist, he got scared thinking that the guy knew his name was Torres. And when the guy told him to "be cool," he fainted in fear because he thought the guy even knew that he was from Bicol!

Question: How much money would you need to secure your future against all imaginable eventualities? How much money should you accumulate so that you could be fearless?

My answer: More than I currently have. Always.

Many companies are beginning to dispense their yearly 13th month bonus. Good because you may have it soon, not good if you are not disciplined in handling finances. Money is always an emotional issue. Control your emotions. Joe Moore says: “A simple fact that is hard to learn is that the time to save money is when you have some.” This is that time for you.

Be fearless because God is near.

Presents and Presence

May God continue to bless us with: Peaceful thoughts as we are growing older everyday. Simple wisdom when we are facing difficult choices. Quiet Moments and Restful hours when the day is long, and above all... bless us with the LORD’s loving presence every day of our lives!

The story is told about three brothers, who after years of hard work and leading busy lives, wanted to make their 90-year-old mother happy especially on Christmas Day. To make up for the years when they have neglected her and took her for granted, the eldest gifted her with a big house. The second son surprised her with a limousine, and the youngest gifted her with an expensive parrot that can recite the whole Bible.

After the holidays, they received a thank you note from their mother. To the first one she wrote: "Thank you for the house, but it is so big I can't clean it myself." To the second one she wrote: "The car is so beautiful, but I never use it because I have nowhere to go." To the youngest, she scribbled: "You gave me the best gift. The bird was delicious!"

As we prepare for Christmas, let's be reminded that the magic of Christmas is in both the presents and in His presence.

Be Patient

Foods for thought:

1. No matter how beautiful and handsome you are just remember baboons and gorillas also attract tourists . Stop boasting.

2. No matter how big and strong you are, you will not carry yourself to your grave . Be humble.

3. No matter how tall you are, you can never see tomorrow. Be patient.

4. No matter how light skinned you are, you will always need light in darkness. Take caution.

5. No matter how rich and many cars you have, you will always walk to bed. Be contented.

Patience with family is Love. Patience with others is Respect. Patience with self is Confidence. Patience for GOD’s answer is Faith! And may I add... Patience with traffic is evidence of all of the above.

Proverbs 19:2 says "Impatience will get you into trouble." I bet, you could probably provide a few personal examples of that truth!

Try to be patient. It is both a skill and an attitude we can develop. Learn to wait. It’s good for you. And remember this: It’s better to be last in the traffic lane than first in the funeral procession.

More thoughts: Anything that ANNOYS you is teaching you PATIENCE. Anything that ANGERS you is teaching you FORGIVENESS and COMPASSION. Anything you HATE is teaching you UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Anything you FEAR is teaching you COURAGE to overcome your fear. Anything you CAN’T CONTROL is teaching you how to LET GO and TRUST GOD.
