A Few More Minutes

This morning I went to the barber shop. While waiting for my turn to have a new look, I sat down next to a man on a bench outside the shop, near a garage. "That's my son over there," he said, pointing to the little boy in red sweater riding his bike. "Yeah, he's a fine looking boy, I also have a son almost his age." I said.

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his son. "Can we go now, Matthew?" Mat pleaded, "Just a few more minutes. Please?" The man nodded and Mat continued to ride his bike to his heart's content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his son. "Time to go now?" Again Mat pleaded, "Wait dad. Just a few more minutes. Please?" The man smiled and said, "OK."

He looked at me and smiled so I said, "You certainly are a patient father, that's really nice." The man smiled and then said, my older son John was killed back home by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike. I never spent much of those time with John and now I'd give anything just for a few minutes with his brother. I've vowed not to make the same mistake with Mat. He thinks he has a few more minutes to ride his bike. The truth is, I get a few more minutes to watch him play."

Life is all about making priorities. I'll give my dear ones a few more minutes of my time today, and everyday. What's yours?
